Samsung has quietly opened pre-reservations in India for its next Galaxy foldable — and the strangest part is that the reservation page doesn't actually name the phone you're paying for. Here's exactly what your money buys, what's confirmed, and what's still just very confident rumor.

Here's a sentence that sounds like it shouldn't be true, but is: you can go to Samsung India's website right now and pay money to reserve a phone that Samsung refuses to name. Not "hasn't announced pricing for yet." Refuses to even print the name of the device on the page you're paying on. The microsite just calls it the "next Galaxy device" or the "Eligible Device," with a tagline reading "Get ready to unfold a new shape." That's the entire pitch. And thousands of people are already paying into it. What Your ₹999 Actually Buys You

That pass locks in a voucher worth ₹2,799, which you can redeem once actual pre-orders open after the July 22 Unpacked event. On top of that, Samsung is promising the highest available exchange value if you're trading in an old phone or smartwatch, plus eligibility for exclusive launch colors and rewards. 

If you don't end up going through with an actual purchase once pre-orders open, the ₹999 gets automatically refunded to whatever payment method you used. So in the strictest sense, this isn't really a purchase at all — it's a fully refundable bet that you'll want to buy whatever gets announced, in exchange for a discount if you do. The reservation window itself runs from July 8 through July 22, or until Samsung's actual pre-booking period opens, whichever happens first. Samsung is also running a side contest from July 9 through July 21 on the same microsite, where answering trivia questions about the upcoming device can win you vouchers ranging from ₹5,000 all the way up to ₹50,000.

Last year's Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and Watch 8 series all launched in India in that same opening wave alongside the US and Europe, rather than trailing behind by months the way some other regions do. This year's pre-reservation timing simply continues that same pattern. That's genuinely good news if you're an Indian buyer who's been burned before by Samsung staggering its global launch by months in some markets. It suggests India isn't being treated as an afterthought this cycle.

The Actual Event: What's Confirmed

Stepping back from the pre-reservation mechanics, here's what Samsung has actually put its name behind, officially. Galaxy Unpacked 2026 is confirmed for July 22, held in person in London — notably Samsung's first-ever summer Unpacked event held outside South Korea or the US, which alone signals the company wants a bigger stage than usual for this one. Treat it as well-informed rumor, not fact, until Samsung actually says it on stage.

What the Leaks Say Is Actually Coming

With that caveat firmly in place, here's the shape of what's expected to show up on July 22. Samsung is widely tipped to bring three separate foldables to the stage at once. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to introduce Samsung's first "wide" foldable design — a broader, more passport-like shape when unfolded, closer in spirit to competitors like Huawei's Pura X Max than to Samsung's own previous Fold generations. Leaks describe a 7.6-inch inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a 5.5-inch outer display in 16:10, both running at 120Hz with adaptive refresh support. 

Alongside it, expect the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, effectively the more premium, more traditional successor to last year's Fold 7, reportedly measuring around 9.7mm thick when folded and weighing roughly 201 grams. Battery capacity is rumored to cross the 5,000 mAh mark for the first time in the line, which would be a meaningful jump for anyone who's ever complained about a foldable dying by dinner time. 

 The Galaxy Z Flip 8 rounds out the trio, expected to bring a lighter, improved hinge along with a bump to 12GB of RAM and a 4.1-inch outer FlexWindow. Interestingly, supply chain chatter suggests this could be the last traditional Z Flip generation, with Samsung reportedly shifting its longer-term foldable ambitions toward tri-fold and multi-fold form factors instead. On top of the phones, expect a refreshed Galaxy Watch lineup — the Galaxy Watch 9 and a Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 — and continued buzz around Samsung's AI-powered smart glasses, developed with Gentle Monster, which are rumored to lean heavily on built-in cameras and audio features rather than a display.

The Price Tag Nobody Wants to Hear About

Here's the part of this story that's less fun to write about, but worth knowing before you reserve anything. Industry reports point to a genuine price increase across the entire upcoming Galaxy lineup this year, largely attributed to an ongoing memory chip shortage affecting the whole industry, not just Samsung. 

Base models of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 are each expected to see roughly a €100 increase over last year's pricing, with the new Galaxy Watches facing a smaller €40 bump. That's not confirmed India pricing specifically, since Samsung hasn't announced local pricing for any of these devices yet. But if the pattern holds the way it usually does when European or global pricing shifts, Indian buyers should brace for a real increase over what the Z Fold 7 series cost at launch last year, not a rounding-error difference.

Should You Actually Reserve One?

Given that the ₹999 is fully refundable and gets you a guaranteed ₹2,799 voucher if you follow through, there's genuinely very little financial downside to reserving now if you already know you want whatever Samsung announces on July 22.
